IT’S not every day that you catch a Hollywood superstar serving tables in Dublin.
But Chloe Moretz revealed that’s exactly what she did while she prepared for her latest role in Neil Jordan’s Greta, which was mainly filmed around the capital.
Chloe, 22, told how the director suggested she should get some first-hand experience in a restaurant to play her waitress character in the psychological thriller.
Chloe doesn’t remember the name of the French restaurant but says it was on the quays in Dublin.
And while she’s won critical acclaim as an actress, Chloe says her waitressing skills left a lot to be desired.
She told the Irish Sun in Los Angeles last week: “I trained there for a week and I waited real tables, which was so difficult.
“I have a massive appreciation for the work people do in restaurants, all of it. I couldn’t even manage to input the computer system or write down orders in shorthand.
“Some people recognised me and I’d be serving tables and taking selfies with patrons at the same time. I’m sure there’s photos floating around with me in my apron!
“Doing that work was really helpful for the filming. There’s a fluidity of moving from table to table and kitchen to bar and serving drinks. I’ve never been more nervous in my life than waiting on a table with strangers.
“I was terrified, trying to remember the sides and the specials and people’s dietary restrictions.”
In Greta, Chloe plays Frances McCullen, a young woman who has recently buried her mother.
When she finds a handbag on the subway in New York, which she returns to its owner, she unwittingly embarks on a dangerous, toxic friendship with its owner, Greta, played by Isabelle Huppert.
The screenplay was co-written by Neil Jordan. While the plot centres around Manhattan, it was mainly filmed in Ireland and Chloe says she and her co-stars, including her roommate played by Maika Monroe enjoyed soaking up some of the best Emerald Isle hot spots during her time here.
She said: “Isabelle and I went to Johnny Fox’s and we did Riverdancing on the stage together! We had so much fun and we walked around Dublin together a lot and tried to take in the sights.
“She loves champagne and I definitely partook in drinking Guinness. I went to the Guinness factory which was really cool and I got a Guinness pint glass with my name on it. It gets a lot of use!”
Chloe was dating Brooklyn Beckham at the time of filming and the pair shared lots of snaps of themselves enjoying an Ireland rugby game and even shopping at Tesco on Baggot Street.
